Side Trips:
Roslagen
In Roslagen, you can find the Uppland archipelago, ironworks, small towns and the open water. Here, you will find the idyllic communities Öregrund, Grisslehamn and Ljusterö – charming places offering everything from fishing and festivals to delicacies and design.
Gårdsjö Moose Park
Outside of Morgongåva, about 45 km from Uppsala, is Gårdsjö Moose Park. Here, traveling by tractor and wagon, you go straight out into the dense Sweden forest to meet moose in their natural environment. From a distance, you could see “the king of the forest” lying completely quiet and idle in a sunny glade. With a bit of enticement, a calf might just come close enough for you to stretch out a hand and stroke its silver-gray face.
Skokloster Castle
Skokloster Castle is considered one of the most amazing environments in all of Europe. The baroque castle, beautifully situated on a peninsula in Lake Mälaren, was built by Count Carl Gustaf Wrangel in the 1600s. This private palace is the largest in Sweden, with extensive collections including furniture, artwork, textiles, weapons and books.
Hammarskog
About 10 km southwest of Uppsala, there is an open-air recreation area called Hammarskog, with fantastic natural surroundings and a number of different activities on offer. In the summer, there is a swimming area with jetty, fishing and a vast network of walking paths.
Linnés Hammarby
A short car ride outside Uppsala lies the beautiful estate of Carl von Linneaus.
